Freesia bulbs (technically known as corms) are small, slender, teardrop-shaped structures with a fibrous outer skin. They produce highly fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers in a wide rainbow of colors.
Quick Planting Guide
Timing: Plant in the spring for summer blooms, or in the fall for winter flowers if growing indoors.
- Depth & Spacing: Plant corms 2 inches deep and 2–3 inches apart.
- Orientation: Always place the pointy end facing up.
- Conditions: They thrive in full sun and well-drained soil.
- Pots: Freesias are excellent for containers; use an 8-inch deep pot to accommodate their root systems.
Popular Varieties
- Single Flowered: Traditional trumpet shapes with intense fragrance.
- Double Flowered: Multiple layers of petals for a fuller, luxurious appearance.
- Mixed Collections: Often sold as "Rainbow" or "Bountiful" mixes containing purple, pink, yellow, and white blooms.
